The message was clear by the Italian Mafia, now that Frank Wallace was eliminated. With the death of his brother Frank in 1932 ambush in Boston’s North End, Steve Wallace became head of the Gustin Gang, but the group’s power waned following the shootout, never to recover.By 1933, the 32 year old gangster was wanted on an attempted murder charge for assaulting a Boston police Detective and murdering the state’s star witness.

In June, Boston police detectives tracked him down to new York City, where, dressed in a natty brown suit  with $100.00 in his pocket, he was arrested while walking down Broadway.Yet the luck that had come so easily to Wallace hand his brothers in the past seemed to still be with him. Despite the charges against him. Steve Wallace would walk free yet again.
